One day down....only 2 years to go......

I had my first day of class in the radiography program today. It went really well, although not much real learnin' got done. We spent the whole time doing orientation type stuff like getting our sylabi, taking tours of the school and lab areas and asking questions about what will be expected of us during the next 2 years. We even got our books for the first semester; what a stack!!

It was pretty nice, though. The school brought in 3 students who were at various points in the program. The first guy was one year ahead of us and had just finished the class portion of the program and had recently started his clinicals or externship. The next girl was almost at the end of the program and had had a year of externships under her belt. And the third guy had gone all the way thru the program, graduated, taken the board exam and had recently found a job and was adjusting to the "real world". They were very informative and answered all of our questions. They even enlightened us on the finer points of giving a barium enema, which excited us all to no end (note the sarcasm). I think if a BE is the worst I have to do, I will count myself lucky after hearing what you poor nurses have to deal with.

So, if you will excuse me, for the first time in a year and a half, I have homework to do. :-)

Congratulations on your first day. Ugh...homework! That's one thing I'm not excited about, but it must be done! You have a hefty load of books there! Good luck and can't wait to hear more as you progress!

LOL!!

That pile brings back memories. I think I had to make two trips to my car after buying my first semester of nursing books. We buy most of the needed books in the first semester.

I am personally intimate with the anatomy book "Introduction to the Human Body" --we used that one in my pre-req class Anatomy and Physiology.

Good luck tonight and tomorrow.

Hello, my name is Yen and I enjoy reading your blog. I am currently taking my preriquisite courses so I can apply for the ultrasound program at my school. Reading your blog gives me an idea of the things I will have to endure after I quit my job and start going to school full time. Just wanted to say Congratulations and introduce myself. I hope you have a smooth 2 years of school.

Yen,

Thanks for your kind words. It was hard to make the final decision to switch careers, but I think it will work out much better in the end for me. I wish you much luck in your ultrasound program. It will be challenging but very rewarding as well.

Take care,

Dustin B.
